NEWS

Oh man, where to start? When COVID took hold of the world in March Dave was just settin up shop in a new studio space, which was upgraded significantly in September. The space was borderline magical and Old Dog Media was born. It was here we’d record ourselves, record others and bust into the world of sync licensing and music publishing.

By November that space was no longer available – there was a fire in an adjacent building, and as a result a mountain of building code violations were uncovered and tenants of the complex were removed indefinitely. So, we were navigating the Covid situation just fine, it was due to some other dumb luck that really grounded us.

Fast forward a few months, our bass player, never one to truly relax, left the East Coast for more arid pastures out West. We remain close and wish him the best!

But now what?? Well … hopefully we can return to HQ in the Spring, however common sense dictates we keep an eye out for new space. And new bass!

In the meantime, we’ve released some new music (Dusty Old Dirt Roads) that’s been well received by some local tastemakers. This is also the first release by Old Dog Media. You’ll notice a mild rebranding, this recent release has gone out to the world as Davis Black / The Inebriations.

We’ll see ya on down the road at some point I’m sure. Until then…

ABOUT THE INEBRIATIONS

Editors note: This is our 2020, pre-Covid era short-form bio. -dB

The Inebriations is a rock trio in the classic mold, with sounds that sometimes remind listeners of The Rolling Stones, Sun Studio Memphis and the electric blues of the sixties and seventies.

The original sound was influenced by the neo-americana movement of the 2010s. Over time, and lineup changes the band has morphed into a louder electric but rootsy rock that’s always been its backbone. They’re calling it, “Post-Americana”.

From 2015-2017, The Inebriations released an EP (The Whiskey Wanderlust EP) and a smattering of singles before going dormant for a short time. By 2019, there were new songs and a newfound energy, driven by some bluesy material influenced by some dark days. It was clearly time to get back to the recording studio, double down and relaunch the band.

Basic tracks for 14 songs were recorded in Spring of 2019 at the world class Power Station New England studios in Connecticut.

The first single, “Whiskey Bottle Blues” — a snapshot of one man’s journey into self-medication — was released on September 20, 2019 on Aberrant Sounds’ in-house label, Brewhouse Records. “Whiskey Bottle Blues” will be the first track on the upcoming “From the Darkness” EP. This EP and its’ followup, titled “Into The Light” will be released in 2020. Obvious change of plans! -dB

Rick plays drums, Jose plays bass and Dave plays guitar, writes songs and sings. They play out regularly in Boston and beyond.

PRESS

I catch the last few songs by The Inebriations. On disk, the arrangements emphasize the Americana. Live, as a trio, they kick up the whiskey and rock. Vocalist Dave gets a chance to howl over Roar and Austin, Texas. They’re driving the jeep around Exile country and its a good ride. — John Keegan, BostonGroupieNews.com — 3/24/19

2015 Top 20 Pick by Metronome Magazine!
“[The Inebriations] rocked americana and roots rock like no band in recent memory … What started out as a virtual one man show has blossomed in to a burgeoning roots rock fest. The Inebriations are the kind of outfit you’ll hear playing in a seedy barroom in the baddest part of town, but they’re also the kind of group you’ll remember distinctly for their energy, enthusiasm and musical prowess.” — Brian Owens, Metronome Magazine

“Country jangle meets guitar lead on a mission. That is right where Whiskey Wanderlust exists, to the spot where clean country guitar leads hang out with their slightly more loose and dirty rock n’ roll riffs friends” — The Alternate Root Magazine

“What we got here is rowdy country-rock, loaded with chicken-pickin’ geetar, solid drumming and the steady thud of the jug-band baseline. It is clearly driven hard by the singer’s raspy yelp that sounds like it has been left to sweat a couple days in some backwoods country smokehouse” — Will Barry, The Noise
